WILL COVID-19 TURN US COMFY?

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

Today's thoughts are about Coronavirus and my take on how it could affect the way we dress once we're back to 'normality.' There's no denying that we haven't seen loungewear taking over everyday wear for a while now, but since lockdown I have noticed every high street/fast fashion brand out there advertising their lounge sections like they're going to go out of fashion. But somehow, I don't think they are...

Who wants to sit around the house in something that's uncomfortable and as far as visitors go, I'm sure the post man will not be offended by your grey PJ-like co ord. I'm a big fan of oversized clothing that can still look flattering, some of my most worn pieces tend to be big sweatshirts and hoodies which don't always have to look scruffy! (depends what kinda day you're talking...)

As far as tight trousers go the only pair you'll find me in are leather look jeans, other than that I'm in comfortable flares, joggers, wide leg trousers or mom/boyfriend jeans. Heres an example of an outfit I get a lot of wear out of. The balloon sleeve sweatshirt is from Zara, leather trousers are PLT and trainers Alexander McQueen. Sweatshirts were created to be worn for athletic activity but are now a part of our everyday wardrobe as we see athleisure and streetwear taking lead. Comfortable, easy option that if you want to can be dressed up with outerwear, choice of trousers and accessories.

Back to the point, I think we're most likely all dressing quite simply at the moment unless you're putting in a lot of effort to go for your daily walk or occasional shopping trip that is. Even for someone who has an undeniable interest in fashion, you would've caught me in the same pair of joggers 4 last week, alternating between my two favourite hoodies. It's easy to dress in the same, cosy clothes, several days a week because in reality it doesn't matter right now... and it's the least of our worries.

It's inevitable that a lot of people's lifestyles will change after this, there will most likely be a huge shift in spending habits and there's a possibility that more people than ever will be able to work from home. As for working from home, a lot of zoom and Skype meetings are happening in which workers are only seen from the waist up... Perhaps trouser and shoe sales will take a beating...

I believe coziness will continue to thrive in the fashion industry, knitted trousers and loose fitting clothing will be more appealing than ever to many who don't need to wear uniform. We might dress more practically as people start to realise there is no need to buy excessive amounts of clothing.

Another set of images in which I'm wearing comfy clothes to shop in, this time my trusty black PLT flares, a plain black hoodie and and aviator. The outfit paired with my McQueens and Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Although fashion might seem silly to be thinking about at a time like this, but Coronavirus has already started to impact the industry and will no doubt continue to do so for a long time.

If you have any thoughts on this I'd love to know! Thanks so much for reading!

Stay safe and sane...
