GUCCI MARMONT MATELASSÉ MINI - A YEAR LATER

It's exactly a year since I got my Gucci Marmont mattelassé mini bag and I thought I would put an honest review out there for anyone who's ever thought of buying one! I spent a long time prior to buying this thinking about what I wanted as my first luxury bag.

I've always been a lover of Gucci - I love how they are a contemporary yet classic they are whilst never failing to make a statement. The classic GG monogram print has been a favourite of many for years both in canvas and leather but Gucci have plenty to offer when it comes to designs and prints - some fo the Gucci classic hardware you will have seen are the interlocking double G's, the Gucci Piston Lock, Gucci Crest, the Gucci Bamboo and the Horse bit.

The inside of the bag has a soft microfibre, suede like material with a slip pocket instead of the zip which is featured in the bigger versions of this bag. I wasn't too bothered about the zip compartment as I didn't think it was essential for a mini bag to have. I don't really use the pocket inside of the bag as I try not to fill the bag too much.

There are several details and features the bag has which I love - the oversized flap with a spring clasp closure, the sliding chain which allows the bag to be worn in various ways, the black luxurious matelassé chevron leather, antique gold-toned hardware and of course the heart detailing on the back. Although it's difficult to narrow down I think my two favourite things about this bag would be the heart on the back of the bag, and the secure spring clasp.

I wanted to stay somewhat safe with my first designer bag, so I went for black which is a colour I knew I would get my wear out of as well as staying a little minimalistic when it came to the design. The antique gold GG sold it too because I had in mind I could wear with my GG belt. So, this was quite hard for me to think of because I haven't really had any issues at all with the bag, but some things to keep in mind before buying would be...

The leather is obviously very soft so when you aren't using the mini bag it's important to fill it out with something so that the structure is kept. I use the tissue paper that came with the back and make sure to keep my bag in its dust bag when not in use. It is intended for the Marmont to be worn as a shoulder or top handle carry bag as well as the possibility of wearing it as a crossbody. I do wear the bag crossbody but try not to do this all the time because the pressure of the chain on the leather can affect the shape overtime, so shoulder bag is safer.

As you can tell, there are slight creases in the leather but hardly any signs of wear. I have a few little marks/scuffs here and there but considering it has been used probably too often and in various weather conditions, the bag looks great. I occasionally wipe it down with a cloth but not very often. One thing to watch out for, despite being a secure bag, there are gaps either side of the flap which sometimes if you're not careful little things can fall out - luckily I have only ever lost one lip liner!

One of the best decisions I made was to get this little bag liner (linked in image.) My nightmare would be getting makeup marks on the interior of the bag so this was a good recommendations from my Mum who uses them to line her bags. Not only does it protect the interior but the structure of the bag and can make you feel more organised. You can personalise them too.

I will never not wear my Marmont! I have so much love for this bag and if I could I'd have it in every colour available! This might be my first Gucci bag, but definitely not the last...

Thanks so much for reading!

I hope everyone is well and staying safe.
